Botanical: Sophora japonica L. (Leguminosae)
Chinese names: Sheng Huai Hua, Huai Hua, Huai Mi
Origin of the flower: South and North China.
Preparation: The flowers is collected in summer at flowering or when flower buds are forming, dried in time and removed from branch, pedicel and foreign matter.
The herb is bitter in flavour, slightly cold in nature, and acts on the liver, stomach and large intestine channels. Being bitter and cold for clearing heat, sinking and moving downward, the herb is good at clearing heat from the liver and large intestine, and from blood to stop bleeding, and cooling the liver to improve eyesight. It is indicated for bleeding due to blood-heat, conjunctival congestion due to liver-heat, hemafecia due to excessive heat in the large intestine, and particularly for hemorrhoidal bleeding.
Effects: Clearing heat from blood to stop bleeding, and from the liver to improve eyesight.
